Research Interests
The purpose of my project is to conduct two experiments to examine the 1) effects of sediment burial and 2) effect of sediment burial with different grain sizes of sediment on growth, condition index, and mortality of Olympia oysters, Ostrea lurida. This project will allow scaling of mortality, growth rates, and condition index to varying depths of sedimentation and how oysters will react to various grain sizes of sediment. The findings of my study will improve population model predictions by accounting for lethal and sublethal impacts of sediment burial that may impact oyster reef persistence. These predictions will be used to inform reef placement or construction criteria to minimize the adverse effects of partial burial on reef-building processes.
