Undergraduate Student, B.S. Biology with concentration in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology expected Spring 2018
I am interested in land and marine-based restoration. In Dr. Zacherl’s lab, I am continuing the longest Olympia oyster survey on the west coast that studies the settlement and recruitment of the native Olympia oyster in Newport Bay, and am starting a project to survey the resource competitors of the oysters. In May 2017, the Dr. Zacherl lab and OC Coastkeeper had worked together to install Living Shorelines in upper Newport Bay. I will be studying a nearby site in upper Newport Bay to see the competitors of the Olympia oyster as a new settler, juvenile, and adult. This survey is preliminary research to identify the major competitor of the Olympia oyster and set up a removal experiment for the following reproductive season (March to September).
