Undergraduate, B.S. Biological Science expected
I have been part of Dr. Zacherl’s lab since June 2014. My project focus is studying the effects of restoration of the native oyster, Ostrea lurida, on epifaunal community structure. I am currently examining epifaunal samples that were collected from a new oyster bed, one year after it was constructed in Los Alamitos, Long Beach, CA. These samples were excavated and sieved into 1mm and 300µm samples. I am sorting these samples by using a dissecting microscope, and identifying organisms to major taxonomy categories: Ostracods, Amphipods, Gastropods, Bivalves, Copepods, Tanaids, Polychaetes, Oligochaetes, and Isopods. I am also in charge of feeding the invertebrates in the aquariums at CSUF.
